‘Hemophagocytosis’ a small yet relevant bone marrow aspirate finding: experience of a tertiary care pediatric centre in India

Backgrond: Hemophagocytosis (HS) is an interesting finding that observed in bone marrow, lymph nodes, CSF other reticuloendothelial systems but at times overlooked or not incorporated reports. Demonstration of hemophagocytosis one criterion the diagnosis Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH).
 Aims and Objective: as important evaluated pediatric marrows having different clinical diagnosis.
 Materials Methods: A retrospective descriptive analysis marrow aspirates 73 patients showing any degree [out 440 aspirates] retrieved from archives Department Pathology during period May 2017 to 2020 were included study. Only those cases where microscopic examination revealed hemophagocytosis(73 cases) study.
 Results: On analysing data aspirate 11 (1 Primary,10 secondary) confirmed clinicopathologically lymphohistiocytosis, 9 (2 metastasis, 4 infective, 1 acute leukemia, ,1 nutritional deficiency Hypocellular with degenerative changes) suspected have HLH clinically however showed features increased serum ferritin >500mg/dl hemophagocytosis, favouring a secondary (WHO 2004).
 Conclusion: We present spectrum differential presenting population its clinico-biochemical correlation assessing progression HLH.
